UPSC Syllabus

The UPSC syllabus for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) is vast and covers a wide range of subjects and topics.

Preliminary Examination (UPSC Prelims): The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (CSAT – Civil Services Aptitude Test).

General Studies Paper-I:

  2. Paper-II: General Studies-I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography of the World and Society)
  3. Paper-III: General Studies-II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International Relations)
  4. Paper-IV: General Studies-III (Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)
  5. Paper-V: General Studies-IV (Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude)
  6. Paper-VI and Paper-VII: Optional Subject – Paper 1 and 2 (Candidates can choose one optional subject from a given list)
  7. Papers-VIII and IX: Any two subjects from the list of optional subjects (Candidates can choose two optional subjects from a given list)
